McCall's 9490 Christmas Balls Partial Cut
McCall's 9490; ©1968; Pattern includes enough transfer to make 12 Christmas balls (6 of View A and 2 each of Views B, C and D). A rectangle of fabric is stamped, seamed and smocked to cover a Styrofoam ball quickly and beautifully. Nylon thread forms an invisible loop for hanging. Or omit hanger and heap them in a bowl for table decoration. Copyright 1968. View A has a single row of cascade smocking around its center and is gathered into pleats to fit the ball at each end. Views B, C and D are embroidered around the center and smocked to fit the ball at each end. View B has two rows of cross-stitch embroidery, forming diamonds. View C has a row of lazy-daisy stitch flowers. View D has two curved, intersecting lines, couched or chain stitched. Sequin, pearl or jewel accents are pinned to center embroidered motifs. Ends of balls are finished with jewels, sequins, yarn or tassels.
